A well‑established public accounting firm is seeking a Tax Manager to lead client engagements, manage complex tax work, and provide strategic guidance to both individuals and businesses. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a client‑facing environment, enjoys mentoring staff, and is ready to take ownership of a growing book of business.

 

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Review

  • Manage and review complex tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.

  • Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Identify tax‑saving opportunities and provide proactive recommendations to clients.

  • Handle multi‑state tax issues, consolidated returns, and specialized industry filings as needed.

Client Management & Advisory

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, delivering timely communication and high‑quality service.

  • Provide strategic tax planning, consulting, and year‑round guidance.

  • Build strong client relationships and support business development efforts when appropriate.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff and senior accountants.

  • Review workpapers, provide feedback, and support professional development.

  • Assist with workload planning, scheduling, and workflow management during peak seasons.

Research & Technical Expertise

  • Stay current on tax law changes and emerging regulations.

  • Conduct technical research and prepare memorandums on complex tax issues.

  • Support partners with special projects, IRS correspondence, and audit responses.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; Master’s in Taxation preferred.

  • CPA required.

  • 5–8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting.

  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.

  • Experience reviewing complex returns and managing client relationships.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, especially during busy season.

  • Proficiency with tax software (e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, ProSystem fx) and strong Excel skills.
